is it ok for 1 month and half yrs old infant to travel by plane?

travel, plane, abroad, baby, parents, infant

I’m a former Flight Attendant and I saw a lot of young babies flying.

Not only is it safe but it’s actually a great time to fly with an infant. Unless your child has a specific health concern, your doctor will probably say it’s fine to fly.

It’s great since small babies just sleep and eat. They don’t even cry very loudly. Most babies travelling on vacation were 8 weeks old. It had to do with the shots so do discuss this with the doctor.

The only way to fly safely is to purchase a seat for the baby and bring the car seat along. Babies in laps are allowed because of commercial reasons and because air travel is safe. If anything does go wrong though, lap held babies are not protected.

Bassinets are convenient but no replacement as far as safety is concerned. They are rare on domestic flights in North America.

There is no reason to feed your baby on take-off and landing. This is a common myth. Keep your baby safe in his or her car seat for these two important phases of the flight. You can remove your baby once the seat belt sign is off if you want. If your baby’s ears are healthy and infection-free, his or her ears will do fine with the pressurization changes. Especially don’t wake your child to make them drink. Let the baby sleep!

I do want to mention that if you’re planning a trip while still pregnant, be very careful. Especially for a first baby, you just don’t know what will happen. The baby might be early or late. There might be minor complications which would make travel difficult. You can actually book a ticket before the birth (without the name) but be aware of the cancellation policy.

For more information, nine years ago I wrote an article on this subject. It’s based on both my personal and professional experience of flying with children. It’s totally non-commercial and other parents from around the world have contributed;

    Hi,

    According to Singapore airlines as long as the baby is more than 7days old they are able to travel on flight.
    You are able to request for a bassinet seat when u purchase the baby’s ticket for no extra charge. Airlines also provides free baby meal/post weaning meal or child meal for infant during the flight.

    Cheers

    All airlines will let you bring the baby. You should check with your pediatrician first to get his opinion .
