Infants are great in the car and travelling is filled with experiences. I would take mine at any age. I never liked the back facing car seats on trips because interacting with your baby is problematic. My wife would often sit in back - all crammed on one side of the back seat - while the baby was awake. Which was not as often as you would think.
Babies like to sleep in the car so much I would drive around at night sometimes just so they would sleep. So traveling works out well.
References :
http://mvbabyandkids.com/

I traveled from Oklahoma City to San Antonio Texas with my two week old baby girl by vehicle. It was a 12 hour drive because we actually had a blow out on the highway and had to stop at a wal mart to get all the tires changed just in case it happened again! And don't worry about protecting your baby from all the 'germs'. Babies need to be exposed to that stuff..to the real world. The more you protect them from it, the more they will be prone to diseases in the future while having a very weakened immune system.
References :
Go on your trip babies are great at travelling when they are that small ... its when they can walk that it becomes a problem.. there are germs everywhere... I have already planned a holiday when our new bub will be 2 months old via plane and im sure that is alot worse germs wise.

I traveled with my 2 wk old son from Colorado to Tx. He was fine slept the whole way. I stopped every time he needed to be fed. Made other stops to give him a break from his car seat to stretch out You just have to worry about the location you are going to. Will the water upset his tummy? Are there different allergens? Climate? I stay in tx now and he's doing fine except for the Mold in the air is causing him to have allergies
