How is it when you travel with an infant?
My son is 7 weeks old and we will be traveling by car for about 18 hours. Does anyone have experience with something like this? How hard is it? Will he cry a lot? should we try to drive Straight through with some stops? any advice will help. thank you.
I took my 7 week old daughter to plane to visit my family, including layovers and finally arriving at my mom’s house it took 15 hours and my daughter pretty much slept the entire time. It was easy compared to now.
Driving by car it’s a little different, you’ll have to stop for diaper changes (depending on your child anywhere from every 2-4 hours) and feedings. If you aren’t nursing then feedings can be done in the car, however for safety reasons the person feeding the baby should be sitting next to them. However, the baby will need to be burped after feedings, which means you’ll have to stop and take the baby out of the car seat to do this.
As long as you understand that you could be stopping every 2 hours to feed, burp and do a diaper change you’ll be fine. These stops could be for 10 minutes or they could over 30 minutes depending on your child and their needs. I wouldn’t suggest trying to drive straight through because with all the feeding/burping/diaper changing stops it will take longer and it’s not really safe to drive that long without sleep (sleep deprivation has similar affects as drunk driving).
We’ll say you have to stop every 3 hours for a diaper change/feeding/burp stop and each stop is 20 minutes, although that’s only 6 stops in your trip that’s an extra 120 minutes (2 hours) of on the road time….so that’s a 20 hour drive. If your child needs to stop more often or takes longer breaks it’ll be even longer. So plan on getting a hotel.

Where can I go to get a replacement cover set for my infant travel system?
You can’t drive 18 hours straight with a 7-week-old. He needs to eat, stretch, be playing with, be changed, etc. It will probably be very difficult. You will have to make a lot of stops. I would suggest avoiding this travel if at all possible. If you can’t avoid it, try you hardest to fly there instead. It would be much faster and not a whole lot more expensive if you find a good deal online. It will be well worth the extra money, trust me.

Your going to need to make stops for diaper changes and feeding. You can’t drive right thru with a 7 week old baby. I have done this, we were in the car for 12 hours one night. Give the baby good attention, make sure he is happy at all times and well fed or he will be cranky.
Good Luck.

Motion usually calms babies. It should be fun, just bring a carry cradle or stroller that folds down to make a bed.

Depends on the baby. If he doesnt like short car rides he wont like the long one. I turned up lucky. I traveled with my nephew half away across the us and he was good unless he was poopy or hungry. He slept most of the way..like alot of kids. But it really just depends on your baby if it likes car rides or not. We drove as far as we could. until the drivers got sleepy. He didnt like the dark so we had a light up toy for him which kept him quiet. They do get fussy after being in a carseat for too long. Try to get as far as you can until he starts crying bad. Then maybe take a rest let him out of the carseat and let him crawl around. You wouldnt like sitting on a hard carseat for too long either.
