At what age did you switch from a toddler bed to a twin size bed?

My daughter is going to be 4 in February and she has been in a toddler bed since she was 2. I was just just wondering what age is a good or appropriate age to switch to a twin bed or if it is even necessary to do until she has outgrown the toddler bed.

We switched at 5 1/2, just before she started kindergarten. My daughter was/is petite and would have fit in the toddler bed longer, but we thought it a was a good time to move her into a ‘big girl’ bed. (She has a small bedroom, so the toddler bed WAS a big space saver.)

Switch whenever you want, or when she no longer fits.

Where are some good places to buy a toddler bed?

Right now I have her in one of them reversable cribs that change into a toddler bed and then a full size bed when old enough. But I decided to go ahead a change it back into a crib for my new born instead of buying a new crib. Where would be a good place to look?

Also do you think it would be cheaper to do it the way I am doing it or do you think it would be cheaper just to buy a new crib?

You don't indicate how old your child is. A two year old can be moved to a twin bed. Many parents just buy the twin bed and put the mattress on the floor until they are more confident that child won't fall out of bed. Because the floor was cold, my neighbor just sanded a piece of plywood and attached it to 4 concrete blocks, then placed the twin mattress on it. Kid never fell out so got the twin bed about 2 months later.

Many grandparents think toddler beds are just a gimmick. I think they are cute though. However, in the interests of finances, I would likely go to a twin bed and buy seperate rails or bolster.

How do you move a toddler from your bed to a crib or toddler bed?

My husband and I chose to cosleep with our newborn to make night nursings easier and get more rest. It was a wonderful arrangement, too, when our son was a little baby. Now our baby has become a 16 month old toddler and we'd like to have our bed back. He kicks us all night and takes up too much space. If I get him to sleep and put him in the crib, he'll wake up every hour. I need sleep to function so there's no way I'm running to the crib every hour all night long. By the way, I weaned him 3 months ago so he gets a lot of comfort at night now by cuddling me. What can I do? I feel awful if I let him cry.

When our first born was around the same age, he was co-sleeping off and on with us. We grew tired, just like you, of the kicking and thumping. It's amazing how much room a little body can take up!!

We would put him down and rub his back until he got very sleepy in his crib, sometimes I'd sing his favorite song. Then we'd tiptoe out and hold our breathes. It really was just a matter of consistency, putting him back when he woke up alone. Giving him comfort by giving him a lovey or Daddy's/Mommy's shirt. Good luck, you'll all be fine soon! : )

How difficult is it to move your child from a crib to a toddler bed?

My twins are almost two and have learned how to climb into each others cribs. Sometimes they fall on the floor when they do this, so I'm thinking toddler bed time. Should I give them seperate beds, or should they share a queen bed? They shared a crib until they were 7 or 8 months and would fit any more.
Do you think it would be harder with one bed or two? And do you think if they are in the same room still that it will even be possible to keep them in their beds at all? How do I even attempt this?

When my twin daughters were babies I bought them seperate cribs, but they never would sleep unless they were together in the same crib. Then, when they were older, I bought seperate toddler beds. And guess what… they kept climbing into each other's beds! So finally I ended up pushing the beds together.

Eventually, I realized that what they really wanted was to sleep together (duh! Don't know why it took me so long to figure out… maybe it was sleep deprivation or something!) After that, we just set up a hand-me-down double bed in their room and they were happy as clams. They cuddled together every night in their sleep.

Now that they're almost teenagers, my daughters do have their own beds, but I still sometimes find them having a "sleepover" in one or the other's bed.

Should we purchase a toddler bed or a twin sized bed?

My daughter just turned 2 and we were curious as to whether we should invest in a toddler bed or a twin sized bed? She is very tall for her age. Thanks in advance for your help.
We have an infant currently sleeping in the bassinet and need to move him to the crib.

go for the twin size…not only will she be getting a "big girl bed," she'll also be able to use that bed for longer, and you won't have to shell out more money when she gets too big for the toddler bed…just mke sure to get a high quality twin bed that can stand up to the years of wear and will also hold up to a couple of years worth of jumping on the bed, because that's really fun, especially for a youngster!

Where can I find a bed rail that fits a toddler bed?

I have a toddler bed and am having a hard time finding bed rails to fit it. Apparently they only make them for twin sized (and up) beds.

Where can I find one to fit?

From my own research it is very difficult. You might end up just purchasing a brand new toddler bed. Kmart has some relatively inexpensive ones with reviews on the website.

Im furniture shopping, and I want to know up to what age can a child sleep in a toddler bed?

Use a toddler bed only if your crib converts to one. Otherwise, it is really just a waste of money since they will outgrow it quickly (it uses a crib mattress). Get the twin bed, and if you are worried about him falling, then put the bed against the wall with a bed rail on the open side

When is the best age to switch a child from a toddler bed to a twin bed with rails?

My daughter will be three July 1st. She has been in her toddler bed since she was about 19 or 20 mo, I think. I also have a little boy who just turned one.

I put my son in a twin bed at 2 1/2, without rails. He fell out of bed twice (scaring him more than hurting him) and he's been fine ever since. Chances ae your daughter is more ready than you are. Make the switch-she'll be just fine.

How long are babies in a toddler bed?

I am considering purchasing a toddler size quilt. I realize I can use this in the crib and then use it in the toddler bed (when I transition from the crib to the bed). The crib converts into a toddler bed with the same size mattress. What I want to know is how old children are when they are too big/too tall to fit in the toddler bed and need a regular twin bed. I am trying to figure out how many years worth of use I will get out of this quilt before it is too small. The quilt would be too small for a twin bed but perfect for a toddler bed.

4-5 years old depending on the childs growth. My six year old could easily still fit in toddler bed, but she is very small for her age. However, I did find that my kids slept better in a twin bed. The plastic toddler mattress wasn't as comfortable as a twin and it squeaks because of the plastic. We moved our three year old to a twin bed for her third birthday and she has done great and sleeps like a rock.

What kind of bed do you have for your toddler?

We're ready to move our almost 3 year old out of the toddler bed (need it for our almost 2 year old) and cant decide to get him a twin or full bed. Or even go with bunk beds, and just not stack them yet. Use as two twin beds. We kind of want the full bed to read him books in sitting next to him, any thoughts?

I used a twin for my daughter, and it worked fine. However if you are worried about him rolling out you can pile some pillows on the floor or get a rail to put on the bed. You can find the pretty easily.
