I think about 20 months. That's about the time they start trying to crawl out the crib and end up falling off. 10 months seems young to me. I'd weight 5 more months but maybe by the time the little baby is out of the bassinett the big baby can go into a big girl bed.

11 months apart? Wow! Good luck with that and enjoy it! For you, I'd suggest finding a different sleeping arrangement for your new baby for a while. Maybe a bassinet or a pack-n-play, or even a new crib. This way you can wait until your daughter is able to get the concept. If your new baby has to use the crib, I'd go for a mattress on the floor over a toddler bed so you can avoid the falls and climbing outs. Babies just aren't mentally able to handle sleeping alone in an elevated bed.

Once my babies were climbing out of their cribs (10 months), we put them on a matress on the floor. This is a great solution for kids who are too young for a bed but too big for a crib. It also trains them and gets them ready for a big bed. They learn to stay on the mattress but if they roll off, there's no harm.

I'll probably put my daughter in one at about 2yrs, if I had another child before then however I wuold put her in it so I don't hve to buy another cot.

They say to wait until they are able or almost able to get out by themselves. (When it won't be safe for them to stay there) My son was over a year old. Good luck!

My two oldest started using a toddler bed at around 2 years old +/- 2 months. I don't know if I would recommend it before the baby is walking though. With the toddler bed they will be able to shimmy themselves out and have opportunities for tripping or falling. Maybe just a mattress on the floor would be better if it is a necessity?

You will know when it is right. My nephiew is three and just moved to one. i have herd alot of people say by one because thier child could crawl out of the crib.

I started to pu my daughter in a toddler bed about 18-19 months, but thats because I am also pregnant and wanted her out of the crib and in a bed so I could use the crib for the new baby. Im due in a month. My daughter will be two Sunday. if the toddler bed has sides on it to prevent your 10 month from rolling out of it, then why not!! Might be easier to get her use to a bed now rather then when she is older and can constantly crawl out of it.
