What age do babies move from a crib to a toddler bed?

My daughter is 17 months old should I take her to a toddler bed now? How will that effect nap and bed time? What has worked for you??? Thanks!

A very good indication is if the toddler can climb out of the crib. It is then certainly time to move her to a toddler bed.

My daughter is almost 20 months. She squirms a lot in her sleep so I still have her in a crib. She hasn't even crawled out yet either. I will probably keep her in the crib a little longer.

If they get to big for the crib, or they are or 2 – 2 1/2 or they are like my son, the monkey, who at about 14 months, would climb to the top or the rails, stand up on them and jump to the floor.

Once they can climb out of the crib, it is more dangerous to have them risk falling and getting hurt then having them in a bed. Either way they can get free.

we made the switch when he was two. the switch is not easy. you have to take them back to bed alot. what helped me was raocking him. i would rock him to sleep and then lay him down it sucked but worked

I chose to wait until my boy was climbing out of the crib regularly (and that just so happens to be now). So when we move next month, I will be putting him in his toddler bed.

I keep reading that when you do, you have to be firm and not give in and it takes about a week for them to understand "stay in bed." That's why I'm not going to bother with it until we move. My son turned 2 in May.

PS I would keep her in her crib until she's crawling out.

When your child can crawl out of his/her crib, it is time to get rid of it…. not the child… the crib…

We moved our little one at around 20 months old. She was getting big for her crib and I got tired of lifting her in and out. She did great! The very first day she was afraid but I sat with her and she fell right to sleep.

Usually when they can start getting out of the crib on their own. About 2-2 1/2.

When they start trying to climb out of it. Until then, why on earth would you want to have her climb out of bed every time they feel like it? After all, nap time is for you, not her.

if she is not trying to climb out of her crib then you can wait until she is 2 or 2 1/2 . my son was two because he kept climbing out of his crib…i would've waited otherwise.

I switched my son to a toddler bed when he turned one. He fell out of the bed a few times, but that's basically how he learn. You do have to take them back to bed sometimes, but it's all good. It's all apart of the experience.

Since my boy's are both 14 months apart, I moved my oldest son in to a toddler bed at the age of 18 months, When his brother was ready to move from the bassinet to the crib, It didn't work out to well at first, he kept getting out of his bed and wouldn't stay in !!! I finally had to put up a baby gate and let him play him self out, even though he did cry some, when my youngest son was around 14 months he started to climb out of the crib, he was ready for the " Big Boy Bed" again I had to put a baby gate up ove the bedroom door, eventually, they both started staying in their beds and sleeping………….. good luck

once they go into a bed it can be bye bye afternoon sleep. Mine went into a bed (a single bed not a toddler bed) at 2 1/2 and the other was 3

my son was in his full size bed at two. he was able to climb in and get out of bed safely, though he rolled off of the bed a night sometimes, that is what a side railing is for, if you want to spend more money on that. i suggest not getting a toddler bed, go ahead and get a full sixe bed. they are sometimes cheaper, unless your crib turns into one. it will take some getting used to because the mattress is softer and not a confined area. she will enjoy the freedom, but again, once you go to a regular bed, you can not go back, and rememebr, your toddler will not be confined when trying to lay her down to sleep.
