Should I get a toddler bed or just a regular twin size for my 2 year old?
I am not certain the purpose of the toddler bed. How long can it be used? Is a twin bed too big? Are there people out there that just went from crib to twin? THANKS!
Depending on which toddler bed you’re considering, and how tall your child is, it can be a waste of money. Though you can reuse the crib mattress for the toddler bed, you’ll have to buy a new mattress set when the child outgrows the toddler, usually around 50 lbs. Our crib converted to a toddler bed, but after we went through the whole "lets jump on my bed when mom’s not looking and pretend I’m a flying superhero" phase the pieces that the mattress sits on are bent all to heck and I have to trash the whole crib instead of reusing it, and my friend had the same thing happen w/ her children’s toddler beds.
We’re going right from the transitioned bed to a twin, as soon as we can get mattresses and a non plastic waterproof cover for under the sheets(it’s almost night time potty training time, lol)
For investment purposes, unless you plan on having more children close together, I’d go w/ the twin and bed rails, because aside from normal mattress maintenence(I don’t wanna promise they’ll last that long) a good twin can last until your child moves out of your home in 16-20 years. Scary thought, isn’t it?
Good luck!

a toddler bed because a twin size bed would be a bit big. so a todler is made to fit a child of the ages of 2 untill the child grows out of the toddler bed.

My niece went straight from a crib to a twin bed. Just make sure it’s low enough for your child to crawl in and out of (no box spring) and put a bed rail on the side not against the wall so your child won’t fall out during the night.
Good luck!

My son hated his crib when he was a baby so we got rid of it when he was abuot 18 months old….he went straight to a twin bed and we just bought some of the guard rails for the bed. (14.99 @walmart) The main reason we did that is because we already had a twin bed so we didnt see the need to spend the money on a toddler bed. He did great in it, we never had issues.
For our daughter, we took her out of the crib at 2, and my MIL bought a toddler bed for her. Toddler beds are cool bc you use the crib mattress for them and they sit very low to the ground. I love my daughters because she is a rough sleeper and falls off it all the time. A twin bed sits higher up so while my son had no issues because he is a hard sleeper I am glad we have a toddler bed for my daughter because she could get hurt rolling off the bed alot.
Another idea that my best friend did was bought a pretty daybed and just turned it around so her son wouldn’t roll off it.

All of my children have gone straight to a twin, or are going to. Right now, our two and 3 year old are sleeping on a full size bed together! We have lack of room upstairs, and they are not sleeping downstairs alone, so we just got a bigger bed for them to share.
A toddler bed is more preferred, but my children slept great on their bed, they never had trouble getting out of the twin bed or on the bed, but if you’re worried about that, I would get a step up stool or something.
We have never used a toddler bed.

Twin beds are fine except be prepared for middle of the night ER visits when the toddler falls on their face when fast asleep – at least that’s what our experience was.

Twin bed would be fine without the boxspring. You may need to get something for the bottom like a slatted bed base so you don’t need the boxspring, or you can buy a "platform" bed frame and just stick the mattress right on top of that.

My son never really climbed out of his crib, But When he hit 2 he started to get CRAMPED in his Crib. I looked at Twin beds and our crib Mattresses fit right in them, so that told me that he wasnt going to be getting anymore room by buying one of them. So, We went straight to a twin bed.
We pushed his twin bed up against the wall, bought a extra long regalo bed rail "I bought mine at walmart, its GREAT!", Bought him Spongebob Bedding and never looked back. He loves his bed and NEVER had a problem with it from day 1, he slept so good with all that extra room and still does. One good thing about a twin bed is that it lasts and lasts, Your child could use it till their 18 and out of the house if you wanted them too.
I do agree, some children can find twin beds quite big from going to a crib to a twin bed. My son didn’t, But I think he took to it fine because he has slept with me in our big bed. Every once in a while I’d let him nap or sleep with me when dad was out of town, so it wasn’t a SHOCK to him. That very night we put it up I told him it was bed time and he climbed up and had a great nights sleep.
I myself dont see much of a point of Toddler beds, It could take them a little longer to get use to the twin bed, but once their over it then you haven’t wasted that $60+ on a toddler bed.
Good Luck!

Don’t waste your money on a toddler bed. Go for the twin. Try a platform bed, low to the ground. Ikea, Target, West Elm and Walmart all have great selections. If your crafty make your own.
I would not buy the captains bed for a toddler or a South Shore brand, because it’s too high. Consider one without the boxsprings.
A little off the twin bed, but a black futon from Target @ 150 is just the right height for a 2 year old and the futon fits a full sheet set and will grow into it.

Toddler beds are really a waste of money. They can only fit in them till the age of 6 or so, and then you would have to buy yet another bed for them. I went from a crib to a twin with my son, and it was fine. I got him a "captains bed", with the drawers under it, and the shelved headboard. Anyway, my opinion, toddler beds are completely pointless, unless you have the money to buy different beds every few years or so.

My son is two and he sleeps in a toddler bed. But he is tosser when he sleeps, so some mornings I wake up to find him all the way accross his bed room where he rolls right off of it. His toddler bed is very close to the ground and we have carpet in his room and I even put a long body pillow on the floor by his bed so I don’t believe he even wakes up when he rolls off. A twin bed is up a little higher. We have one of those cribs that converts from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed to a twin bed and then a full sized bed. I love it. Also with the toddler bed you get a little more use out of the crib mattress.
I guess I’m saying go for the toddler bed if your son/daughter is a tosser like mine. See if you can find a toddler bed that converts. I’m sure they’re out there.

The toddler bed I have goes up to 50lbs. I figure that is around 5 or 6 years old. My son is 2 1/2 and we decided to go with the toddler bed because he is a tiny thing and could get out of it easier. You could go to the twin bed but make sure you push it against a wall and buy a bed rail for the other side. Toddler beds are really not that expensive though. We got ours for around $50 and the great thing is the crib mattress works fine in it. Take care.
